When it comes to home repairs, finding a contractor you can trust is crucial. There are some great articles from the Better Business Bureau and Washington Labor and Industries that outline tips for hiring your next contractor and we’ve outlined a few for you below.
If you’re looking to replace or clean a roof in the next few months, then you’ll want to make sure to do your due diligence with research first. Emergency repairs don’t always offer homeowners the luxury of in-depth research, but some amount of research should still be done. Here are a few questions that need to be answered:
The Labor and Industries’ website allows you to verify if a contractor is registered or not. It should look like the picture below with information about their licensing, bonding and insurance.
Through the Better Business Bureau website, you will be able to find out about any complaints, their rating overall as well as general business information, like how long the company has been in business.
Be wary of contractors that refuse to let you speak to a reference. If a contractor doesn’t have a single reference, or if the contact information for the references is incorrect, that’s a big red flag.
Even if an emergency situation arises, these 3 questions can easily be answered and will save homeowners the heartache of working with an untrustworthy contractor. At Chinook, we’re always happy to help answer questions about our work and bids, so contact us today for a free estimate.
