Single-ply membranes are commonly installed on commercial style roofs.  There are several different types of single-ply available, depending on the building's use and also the geographical area.  Below is a brief description of the most common single-ply membranes currently available:

Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) single-ply membrane has fast become one of the fastest-growing most popular roofing systems for large commercial and industrial facilities. TPO is engineered to be highly heat reflective, making it an very energy-efficient choice for flat roofs on large facilities. It is also extremely resistant to ultraviolet (UV) light, ozone gas, and chemical exposure. Chinook BES is a TPO roofing installation specialist, well known among manufacturers and customers alike for efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality TPO installations throughout Western Washington.

Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) roofing is a single-ply form of thermoplastic roofing membrane, a category which also includes TPO roofing membranes. PVC roofing that is economical, fast to install  flexible, puncture resistant, and capable of withstanding standing up to UV radiation, in-climate weather, weathering, and large changes extreme ranges in temperature, and will provide for many years and even decades of reliable long-term performance.

Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) roofing is a type of synthetic rubber that makes an excellent choice for many flat and low-slope roofing applications. EPDM roofing features enhanced flexibility over TPO and PVC roofing products, making it an ideal choice for extreme temperatures. Additionally, EPDM roofing is available in a standard black color as well as highly reflective white color, a fantastic option for heat reflectivity, keeping facilities’ interiors cooler and contributing to potentially significant energy savings.

Ketone Ethylene Ester (KEE) is a single ply high-molecular-weight polymer with elastomeric properties and favorable melting properties and favorable melting properties for thermoplastic processing. The molecule can replace plasticizers in roofing membranes as a solution for flexibility that will not migrate out of the membrane. When mixed with PVC, KEE provides many desirable characteristics in roofing membranes including ease of heat welding due to its melting properties, resistance to chemical attack as well as microbial growth, weather resistance, long term flexibility, energy efficiency, and durability.  and resistance to microbial growth.

Standing seam, vertical panel, tile, metal shingles and other styles are noted for their durability, longevity and energy efficiency.

Smooth Modified Built Up Roofing, commonly referred to as BUR, is a traditional, time tested, commercial roofing system that has been used in the United States for more than a century. BUR roofs are also known as “tar and gravel” roofing systems and are composed of multiple alternating layers of  asphaltic bitumen and reinforcing fabrics, which combine to create a complete membrane. The roofing professionals at Chinook BES have been working with BUR for more than two decades, and we have a trusted reputation for our experience and skill in BUR maintenance and repair.

Take an old standby like asphalt, proven over more than a century of use, and add the reinforcing strength of modern fiberglass.

For flat commercial and industrial roofs that are designed to handle the weight, green roofs have become an increasingly popular option. A green roof system allows planting of a living garden making a neglected space useful. In addition to helping curb water runoff, growing plants on your facility’s roof can block heat absorption, noticeably lowering energy bills. Chinook BES offers customizable modular green roof systems consisting of interlocking soil receptacles that float above the flat roof membrane transforming a conventional roof into a green roof with natural insulation, creating a  peaceful retreat for both people and animals.
